About
The Bittersweet Spoon was born from a lifelong love of food and the art of hosting. Rooted in Grenada, the Isle of Spice, my story begins with nutmeg-scented air and a lineage shaped by food - inspired by my grandfather, who ran his own spice company on the island, and stories of my grandmother, who opened a small bakery parlour in the parish her family called home. From them came the kind of gathering I hold close: where laughter spills easily, the table is a little too crowded, and moments linger well beyond the last bite.
My path into food began behind the scenes. As an Event Planner with Gibson & Lyle Caterers in Toronto, I found myself drawn less to logistics and more to the kitchens — watching chefs compose menus that transformed culinary moments into memories. It was there I learned that details matter, not for perfection’s sake, but for how they transform an experience into something felt and remembered. That curiosity led me to train as a Pastry Chef, spending my school years interning at Bobbette and Belle, an incredibly beautiful Artisanal Pastry Shop where I honed the quiet discipline of pastry and the art of creating confections rooted in restraint and intention. In time, that journey carried me into running my own cake and pastry business, Cocoa Lane Sweeterie — years spent baking for milestones, celebrations and for life’s most meaningful moments.
The Bittersweet Spoon is where I share recipes, cocktails, and stories — an exploration of the small, intricate details that make life feel fuller. It’s about honouring where I come from while making room for something new. If you believe thoughtfully made food can shift a mood, stir a feeling or slow a moment, you’re in the right place.
